Logos and lockups
Q: Why can’t I put my club name to the right of the Rotary wheel in my logo?
A: The space to the right of your club logo is reserved for a partner, sponsor, program, or event. By consistently using our logo design correctly in all of your communications, you help strengthen Rotary’s brand recognition.
Q: How can I use the presidential theme logo?
A: The presidential theme logo should be treated like all other Rotary logos. When used by clubs, districts, or zones, it should be locked up (combined) with your club, district, or zone logo. We recommend using the presidential theme on materials and in communications to Rotary members only. Find information about the presidential theme and theme logo materials.
Q: How can I make sure my logo is correct?
A: Rotary International doesn’t have a process for approving a club, district, or zone logo. But your club or district public image chair can help. We encourage you to use the template in the Brand Center to create your logos. You can also learn more by taking the Learning Center course Our Logo: Representing Rotary.
Q: Our club has used the same logo for years. Do we have to replace it?
A: To strengthen Rotary’s brand recognition around the world, clubs should always use their official club logo. But we know some clubs have logos that have historical meaning. If your club’s previous logo doesn’t contain any Rotary logos, you can use it as a secondary logo, apart from your official club logo.
Q: Can I use the Rotary wheel (the Mark of Excellence) as a profile picture on social media?
A: Yes. If the social media page or group is for your Rotary club, district, zone, Rotary Fellowship, or Rotary Action Group — and it’s identified as such — you can use the Rotary wheel in the profile picture.
Q: Where can I find the logos for Rotary Friendship Exchange, Rotary Community Corps, and intercountry committees?
A: These program logos were retired in 2013. You can still promote these programs by creating a logo lockup with your club, district, or zone logo. Learn about creating a logo lockup.
Q: Can I use another organization’s trademarked logo with our Rotary club or district logo to promote an event or partnership?
A: Yes. You can create a logo lockup to show your club, district, or zone’s affiliation with another organization. Use the lockup templates to create a logo that combines your Rotary, Rotaract, or Interact club logo with your partner, sponsor, program, or event’s logo. Your lockup can include only one partner, sponsor, program, or event. Learn more about creating a logo lockup to promote your club’s activities in your community.
Q: Several organizations are working with us on our fundraising event. Can we create a logo with more than one partner?
A: No. Your logo lockup can include only one partner, sponsor, program, or event. Choose your main partner to include in the lockup and list the others separately. If all partners are equal, don’t use a lockup. Instead, list their logos separately from your official logo.
Q: Can I change the colors of the logos?
A: No. To strengthen our brand recognition around the world, use only the colors in which the logos are offered.
Q: Can the Rotary logos be placed inside of or be part of another logo?
A: No. Rotary’s logos cannot be placed inside or be a subordinate part of another logo. You can create a lockup of your club, district, or zone logo with another organization’s logo. Learn more about creating a logo lockup.
Q: Some Rotary clubs in my district refuse to use the Masterbrand Signature system to create a club logo. They want to use their old club logo instead. How can we persuade them to adopt the new design?
A: Change is difficult, but presenting a unified and consistent image strengthens our brand — which also strengthens clubs’ ability to do good in the world. Clubs should always use their official Rotary club logos in all communications. We know some clubs have logos that have historical meaning. If the logo doesn’t contain any Rotary logos, clubs can use it as a secondary logo, apart from the official club logo.
Q: We want to update our club’s materials with our new logo. What should we do first?
A: Focus first on updating materials and digital platforms that are visible to and accessible to the public. Make sure your club websites, social media channels, and promotional materials all have the new logo.
Q: Where can the Masterbrand Signature Simplified logo be used?
A: The Masterbrand Signature Simplified logo, including the simplified versions of club and district logos, can be used in all print and digital communications. We recommend using the simplified version if the logo will be smaller than 1.25 cm (0.5 inches) or will be embroidered.
Q: How do I create a logo for a multidistrict information organization?
A: A logo for a Rotaract multidistrict information organization is similar to club and district logos, but it needs to include the organization name or the abbreviation “MDIO” as well as the location or region. Learn more about Rotaract multidistrict information organizations.
